A Game of 40K
Pictures of a game of 40K against my wife. I was playing Eldar, she was playing Necrons.
I’ve decided I really don’t like that wraithlord’s color scheme. The red on his hands and feet make him look goofy.
In the above picture you can see some of our make-shift terrain for the evening: A CD spindle representing some sort of tower, and a pair of Arkham Horror expansion boxes as a medium-sized building. (That blob of white to the right is a cliff made out of modeling clay–haven’t got around to painting it yet.)
Those monoliths are ridiculous. With a 14 armor value and their “living metal” ability (which basically removes any sort of extra armor-piercing bonuses from weapons) I have to roll a string of 6′s on multiple turns to take it out. (Unless I get lucky enough to charge one of the things with my wraithlord–which happened last night!)
We play on a 4′ x 4′ surface. It is a pair of 2′ x 4′ folding tables pushed together. (That mega-sized battlemat serves to cover the small gap.) With armies of this size, I should really pick up another 2′ x 4′ table and stick it on an end so we have the 6′ x 4′ suggested play area.
The dice trays and bottle of water are not terrain. At the bottom of the picture is a card game box (Hacker by Steve Jackson Games) that represents another medium-sized building. Just to its right is an 8″ x 8″ piece of printed card stock (normally a dungeon tile) that serves as a swamp. Along the mid-left are some cardboard tubes that once held ribbon; they are now vent towers. (One of them even has a bit salvaged from a hair-dryer on its top, I’m still looking from another bit for the other before I paint them.) Just above the vent towers are some reactor towers (three half Coke cans; I’m still looking for a good way to base them before I add some detail and paint.)
