Halloween Adventure Idea

This is mostly a systemless idea, although I envision it as a Don’t Rest Your Head or Call of Cthulhu game.

Zombie Metrics

Posted in Fluff/Inspiration, General, Rules Ideas on September 18th, 2009 by DeadGod – 5 Comments

This article will discuss how to take some readily available information and use it to estimate the undead population of a town after a zombie apocalypse.  To do this in a way that doesn’t require copious amounts of research, we are going to have to make some broad generalizations.  In addition, because zombie and human interaction trends tend to determine their most likely location, we are going to make and discuss some assumptions about that interaction.

Real Life: “Reaper Lizard” found under Utah

Posted in Fluff/Inspiration on July 23rd, 2009 by DeadGod – Be the first to comment

They are calling it therizinosaur (which means “reaper lizard”) because of its giant claws.  If I didn’t know any better, I would think they were describing an Owlbear!

Real World News: We have attempted genetic uplift.

Scientists have isolated the Foxp2 gene from humans and placed them in mice.  This gene is part of a cascade of genes that are believed to be responsible for developing speech.  The result:  the mice have changed their squeaks to whistles.

Creepy?  Yes.  Exciting?  Yes.  I can’t wait for the resulting legal and ethical debate when the first mouse demands a halt to its indignation.  :)

Terrain Inspiration: Roll it up!

One of the GMing departments I see myself lacking in is terrain in combat encounters.  Too often, I fall on flat rooms with a pillar here or a table there, but nothing very interesting or interactive.  In games like 4ed, terrain is suddenly a major part of the encounter.  In other games, terrain might not be as mechanically important, but can still afford more depth to a combat.

RPGTM: League of Super Evil

Posted in Fluff/Inspiration, General, RPG Thought of the Moment on April 20th, 2009 by DeadGod – 1 Comment

Over the past week I managed to catch a couple episodes of League of Super Evil on Cartoon Network.  (If you haven’t seen the show and haven’t put it together yet, that acronym is LOSE.)  It inspired me for a wonderful game.  Take your favorite super hero system.  Have players generate super villains, but give them extremely low points to create their characters and/or make their powers weak and ridiculous.  Don’t run adventures about stealing lots of money or trying to take over the world.  Instead, run adventures about petty things like trying to steal cable, or ordering a pizza and deliberately delaying the delivery guy so that you get the pizza free.

The primary idea here is that the characters should be pathetic enough that even minor things are difficult to accomplish for them.  This would obviously be a light-hearted comedy game.  I’m sure you could take lots of inspiration from Paranoia, Hol, and other games with a lot of ridiculous comedy and seething sarcasm.
